The first time Carol practiced yoga, she felt a connection to the simple, yet beautiful deep well of peace in the center of her being. It felt like coming home. She has been chasing that feeling ever since. She loves the calming effect yoga has on her body, and especially on her over-active mind. The balance and ever deepening level of awareness she finds in her daily practice continues to ground yet elevate her everyday experiences.
In 2004, Carol completed her first teacher training at the 200 hour level. She realized then she only dipped her little toe in the ocean of knowledge yoga holds. A passion and fire ignited within her soul to search for Truth. She spent the following years in deep study, attending numerous weekend workshops and classes with amazing teachers, including Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and Sharath Jois, as well as extensive study with her most beloved teacher Tim Miller, with whom she completed 100 hours each in primary, intermediate and advanced series. The more she studies the more she realizes she doesn't know anything, and Truth is ever elusive. Her passion and love for the mystery of yoga has only deepened her desire to continually inquire within, for the seeker she is at heart understands that within is where the universe resides. In fall of 2016 Carol made her first pilgrimage to India, where she studied with some beautiful unknown teachers, as well as Saraswathi Jois. She plans to continue these pilgrimages every few years to steep herself in the deep lineage of Ashtanga and Hatha yoga, and to for the simple pleasure of just being a student. She now realizes she will never be done learning. "And the road goes on forever and the party never ends..."

Ellie began the practice of yoga while cross-training for a marathon, at the recommendation of a dear friend. She learned and practiced Ashtanga yoga with teachers Carol Lyons and Amanda Lewis at Studio 8 (Ashtanga Yoga Reno), and has since completed a 200 hr vinyasa flow certification here in Reno, as well as recently completing a Primary Series Ashtanga teacher training with Tim Miller. Ellie uses a direct approach to moving safely through sun salutations, standing, and seated postures. When I began attending yoga classes ten years ago my intention was to add some stretching into my regular fitness routine. Posture and flexibility have always been a challenge for me and after years of pounding the pavement while training for and running marathons, slowing down and placing some mindful attention on my body was a novel idea. The physical benefits of yoga were easily noticed, but I became a lifelong student as I realized the deeper aspects of what this practice has to offer. Life lessons of consciousness, mindfulness and recognition that we are all one, is what it’s all about. I completed my teacher training under Melissa Martinez, a life changing experience for which I am beyond grateful. I am so excited to share the grace and strength of this practice with others. I have always called Reno my home. I am so appreciative of the incredible support network of family and friends that surround me in this awesome city. I am sharing this journey with my amazing husband and our four beautiful children….my teachers who remind me daily with their encouraging smiles and love that I know I’m on the right path because I’m uninterested in looking back.
Victoria leads Guided Meditation Sundays at 5pm.
Ever since her first yoga class at the local YMCA in high school, yoga has found a way into Megan’s life. Fifteen years later, in 2014, after exploring various types ofyoga and inspired by her many teachers, she completed her 200 RYT training. Megan is enthusiastic about sharing her love of yoga with her students and helping them find balance between strength and surrender and to feel empowered in their practice. In her classes, you will experience a vinyasa flow-based sequence, moving from standing postures to the mat, exploring ways to move deeper into poses--finding stability, grounding, and release.
Megan leads Yoga for Skiers/Cyclists/Athletes Mondays at 6:30pm.
Amy was raised in Reno by her yoga practicing mom and meditating grandma. In college she practiced Bikram yoga and found serenity in the consistently presented postures but eventually she just couldn't take the heat. A couple years later she began a modest home practice. One spring day Amy followed her friend Eleanor to an Ashtanga class and was pleased to discover a reliable series of movements and stretches that stimulated her both physically and mentally. Amy completed a 200 hour YTT with All Yoga Thailand on the island of Koh Samui in October 2014. She continued to travel throughout Southeast Asia for many months, finding inspiration from many wonderful teachers, places, and experiences.
Doug teaches our free/donation based Eye Opener class Tuesday nights at 7. He shares a practice geared towards, but definitely not limited to, those dealing with addictions and life challenges. Whether it's your first time in yoga or have a seasoned practice, this class of yoga/breathing/discussion is for everyone looking to strengthen mind, body & soul to help us deal with the struggles of life.
Megan is a yoga student first and teacher second. She came to the mat on accident and stays because that's where she most frequently meets her best self. She considers her practice her partner in being good at living and sees teaching yoga as how she can add value and be useful.
Megan’s teaching style leans heavily on humor. She’s a fan of using props to access otherwise unavailable postures. She relishes coaching and cheering her students to successfully and safely discover postures they once saw as a no-go and is grateful that yoga studios offer people a place where postures like Happy Baby are socially acceptable.
I teach yoga because I believe in the practice. If you would have told me 10 years ago that I would be a yoga teacher today, I would have laughed in your face. I was a gym rat, yoga was for hippies. I took my first yoga class on a whim. I thought savasana was stupid and forward folds were impossible. Something kept me coming back. That something was a desperate need from within, from my spirit, to connect with myself (I am now kind of a hippie after all). Three years later in 2007 I carted myself off to an ashram in Nederland, Co., the Shambhava School of Yoga, where I learned there is so much more than the gym style power yoga I was accustomed to. So, I studied very hard and earned my 200hr RYT certification. I came back to Reno excited to teach and continue my education. I enrolled in the personal training certification program at Truckee Meadows Community College where I furthered my studies in anatomy, exercise physiology, and kinesiology, and I began teaching yoga in gyms, studios, homes, and classrooms all over Reno. In 2010, life happened and a series of illness and loss forced me to put down my active personal and professional practice to heal myself and care for my loved ones. I lost a lot of faith in myself during those years. Even in the most difficult times, however, when I actually tried to lose faith in yoga, in that connection to myself, the practice would continue to break through the fog of hurt and fear and be my truth when there was no other truth. Yoga evolved into more than my physical practice; it became my way of life. There is nothing like yoga that I have found that holds you up during times of pain and difficulty and lifts you higher during times of celebration and joy. It is always accessible, because it is you: your body and your breath; a constant in chaos and in stillness. It is just our luck that yoga is also great for health and wellness physically, emotionally, and psychologically. The depth of the practice is fathomless and the list of benefits is endless. Most recently I have completed 45 prenatal training hours with Kim Allcock and Mandy Colbert at Yoga Loka and I look forward to welcoming expecting mommas to the practice! I am so happy to be teaching again and I look forward to meeting you in your practice and sharing some truth, love, and light. Thank you. Namasté
A Pilates instructor since 2004, the transistion into Yoga Instructor was a natural 'next step'.
In addition to many Pilates trainings, I have now completed 200hr- YTT, and another 200hr YTT on consecutive years with We Are One YTT. Also, having completed an intensive training for Restorative Yoga at Ananda Village a year ago, I'm happy to offer that peaceful and meditative experience as well. As most instructors will agree, the training is never over and continuing to seek out growth through education is part of the offering we all bring to our practice and to our students. All are welcome!

Jole Rector grew up in Reno, NV and graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno in 2009 with a BA in English Writing. After college she went through a 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training program in Reno 2009-2010 and began to teach yoga after the training. She also happened upon the circus arts around the end of the training--including aerial arts and partner acrobatics. She began to assist teaching partner yoga/acrobatics by 2011 and teaching aerial arts in 2012. In 2014 she got the opportunity to teach aerial yoga, fusing her knowledge of aerial arts and yoga. She enjoys teaching a practice where people can explore how their bodies move in space and observe what those movements feel like inside the body.
Kim has been practicing in the Reno area for over 12 years in various styles including Hatha, Bikram and Vinyasa. Having completed a 200-hr Satya Core Flow Yoga teaching training in June of 2013 and Reiki level I and II training she is more than excited and grateful to have opportunities to expand her yoga practice and community to include teaching. Kim hopes to create fun yet challenging vinyasa classes by sharing and making her love of yoga, arm balances and being upside down accessible to all levels, striving to create a safe and encouraging environment. The great outdoors is one of her favorite yoga studios and you can find her every year upside down out on the playa in the Black Rock Desert!
